The load-bearing structures of lightweight steel structures typically consist of cold-formed thin-walled steel sections, profiled steel sheets, profiled aluminum sheets, hot-rolled H-shaped steel, T-shaped steel, and the like. So, how does it differ from conventional steel structures? Compared with the design of conventional steel structures, the design of lightweight steel structures has the following characteristics: (1) Compressive and stability calculations shall be based on the effective cross-section. (2) For tensile and compressive members where the entire cross-section is considered effective, the design strength can take into account the cold-forming effect. (3) Cold-formed thin-walled steel structures must adopt effective corrosion protection measures as required by the design codes.
